Outdoor Plants
|
If you wish to plant fruit trees or bushes early September onwards is the ideal time with a wide and varied selection available. This includes many types which will allow you to pick your own fruit from as early as next summer (such as blackcurrants, raspberries and gooseberries). However some may need a little longer before you get them to crop fully such as apples and pear trees, but the wait will be worthwhile. We will also be stocking our widest choice of ornamental trees during the autumn-winter period. Many of these have good autumn features like great foliage colour or fruit, especially on varieties like Crab Apple and Rowan. Many people tend to ignore their gardens during autumn/winter as many of the plants look uninteresting when they lose their leaves, but this does not need to be the case. There are a wide selection of evergreens and plants with late autumn and winter interest, (i.e. with berries, coloured stems or even flowers.) Now is the time to visit us as you will see these plants in all their glory, or at least ready to brighten up a dull spot in any garden. Autumn is traditionally the best time for planting roses and it is from late September that we will be having all our new season stock available. During this time they will settle in and form a good root system so they can grow away in the spring. It is important to check plants regularly and water them if needed during dry spells. |
