Product Description

Romanas style is modern, including cabinets and sideboards with a low contemporary outline; but with subtle detailing and soft shapes the range remains understated. Detailing includes shaped legs, whose easy organic lines belie the complexity of manufacture. The shaped edge to the top panels echoes the softness of ercols vintage mid-century designs, but cut into the carcass it gives a streamlined feel to the silhouette. A high level of craftsmanship is used in creating the organic shapes in the range. Complex construction is further evidenced in flush, sculpted curves across joints and in the close fit of the curved tops into the recessed tops of the cabinet carcasses.

This striking oak high board is a statement piece of furniture, combining modern styling with practical storage. Three large storage cupboards, all with adjustable shelves for complete flexibility, in addition there are two standard drawers and a third extra deep drawer for extra storage all have convenient soft close mechanisms. The front edge of the high board top has the signature soft curve, and the legs have the fluid organic curves and chamfers, that characterise Romana. Fluid wave-shaped cut-out recesses provide the door and drawer handles, another design signature of the range. This beautiful piece of oak furniture is finished in a clear matt lacquer to display the natural timber to the full.

Caring For Your Furniture

At Downtown we pride ourselves on not only offering a wide range of beautiful, high quality furniture in our stores in Grantham, Boston and online, but also the very best after sales service in case you ever have any execpted issues with your purchase. With this in mind to help you get the most from your new furniture we have put together this short guide, which in addition to helping you to avoid problems encountered through incorrect use, also offers advise should unexpected accidents happen.

Furniture finishes:

Although resistance to abrasion and spills can vary depending on the finish, the wood's natural structure creates variances in wood grain, pattern and shades. The colour of the veneer or the finish can also affect the appearance, with very light or very dark finishes tending to show any minor imperfectons. The majority of finishes can lighten or darken over time., this will be more noticeable on unexposed parts of your furniture, for example - table leaves.

How to avoid damage to your furniture:

Avoid placing your furniture next to radiators, fires or windows as the changes in temperature can result in cracks and distortion. Protect the surface of your furniture from hot items such as the plates and dishes and wipe any spills immediately.

Don't overload drawers and shelves as this can cause permanent distortion of your furniture.

Wood and veneer maintenance:

Wipe with a slightly damp cloth and use a small amount of mind, non-abrasive detergent. Avoid using silicone based spray and polishes and wax, as these may cause smears and small colour patches on matt surfaces and wax build up can be difficult to remove.

We recommend that the use of a wax free cleaner polish, available from Downtown, is used every three months, to maintain the natural beauty of your furniture.

Oiled oak maintenance:

To maintain your furniture in perfect condition, once a month for three months you should apply a thin coat of furniture oil with a lint free cloth and then after the three months, once a year should be sufficient to maintain the soft oil finish of your furniture.

Marble maintenance:

Marble can retain its attractive appearance for thousands of years, however, it is vulnerable to hard knocks and scratches to the edges. Use a mild soap solution to wash the surface of the marble and do not expose your marble furniture to solvents such as thinners or acids as it has received a varnish treatment to ensure that it's surface is resistant to grease, wine, spirits etc.
