Buying Furniture for your Home

Measuring Your Space

One of the most important aspects of buying new furniture is making sure it will fit in your room and has the right proportions for the look you want to create. Furniture is a major investment, and it can be a terrible feeling if the new wardrobe you have craved for sure a long time ends up not fitting where you wanted it to.

Colours, Materials & Finishes

Different finishes to furniture give off different effects. For example dark woods make furniture look bigger, heavier and more dramatic, making them perfect for larger rooms. Glass and mirrored furniture give the illusion of light and more space in smaller rooms. Less is more - a cluttered room will appear smaller if there is more in it.

Care & Protection

Wood furniture may have a lacquered or oiled finish, or if the wood is untreated it may just be finished with a colourless wax. Protect surfaces from heat and liquids using placemats and coasters. Hard lacquer and wax polish finishes should only be dusted with a soft dry cloth. Avoid placing furniture next to radiators or fires, or in direct sunlight.

Spread the Cost

At Oldrids & Downtown we now offer interest free credit on furniture purchases of £500 or more, so that you can spread the cost of your purchase. With interest free credit and a 25% deposit, you can pay over up to 36 months. We also offered interest bearing credit at 9.9% APR that requires no deposit, allowing you spread your order up to 5 years.
