How to choose the right bedding set?

Consider the feel

One of the most important factors of choosing bed linen is how it feels against your skin. The thread count tells you how closely woven the fabric is, and generally the higher the thread count, the softer and moother the piece of bedding will be. However, you also have to consider the quality of the thread and material used.

What design to purchase?

At Oldrids & Downtown we are proud to stock bedlinen from a wide range of fantastic brands. If you are looking for specific Winter bedding, you may choose warmer tones, as well as a throw and a scattering of cushions. In the Summer months you might prefer a floral pattern in light shades. You'll spend a third of your life in your bed, so make sure you love what you buy!

Choosing Pillowcases

There are three common types of pillowcase to choose from. Housewife are the most popular, designed to fit generic pillows securely and prevent creases. The Oxford is considered a more luxurious variation and have decorative borders, adding a touch of elegance to your bedding set. Finally the square pillowcases are often chosen for decorative purposes.

Bedsheets and Linen Care

Bed sheets are available in two varieties: flat and fitted. A flat sheet is larger and requires tucking underneath your mattress, whilst a fitted sheet will be elasticated at the corners to go around your mattress. Caring for your bed linen is important; we recommend you always split your light and dark linen to avoid discolouration. Read and follow any specific washing instructions.
