A great night's sleep does not only depend on your mattress and your bed, but also on having the right duvet. By having different sizes, fillings, tog ratings and styles, at Oldrids & Downtown we can provide you with a wide variety to find a duvet that is perfect for you and your needs.

Like beds, mattresses and of course bedding sets, duvets come in different sizes. Whilst there are special duvets available for children and youngsters, the standard UK duvet sizes are:

  • Single Duvets: Approx. 135 x 200cm
  • Double Duvets: Approx. 200 x 200cm
  • King Size Duvets: Approx 230 x 230cm
  • Super King Duvets: Approx 260 x 260cm

You will also find that the right duvet for your needs depends on the tog rating. A lower tog rating such as 4.5 is a great, lightweight choice to help you stay cool in the summer whilst a warmer, thicker tog rating goes up to around 13.5 for that extra warmth and comfort. A standard, all-weather tog value is between 7.5 and 10.5, which whilst suitable for use all year round, is common in spring and autumn.

Finally, you can choose from the two main types of duvet filling: natural and synthetic. Natural duvet fillings include silk, wool, goose or duck down or a down and feather blend. Synthetic materials include polyester hollowfibre and microfibre. Natural fillings are generally more expensive but of a higher quality.

If you suffer from allergies or are sensitive to dust, then an anti-allergy duvet or duvets that specifically state that they are hypoallergenic are a good choice.

We also appreciate you may have a few more questions to ask before you progress with ordering a duvet, that is why we have a few common questions and answers below:

What is the best tog for a duvet? - In the winter you will want to choose quilts that are thicker and retain more warmth, therefore a 10.5 tog or 13.5 tog duvet is a great choice. You may also opt for a goose down duvet or a filling that is going to be more natural. In the summer months you will want a lighter duvet and may opt for a 4.5 tog bedding duvet which will be comfortable to sleep under.

How much does a duvet cost? - A luxury duvet does not have cost the earth. All of our brands including The Fine Bedding Company and Kings and Queens offer budget and top end options to fit your bed linen.

Do you sell other bed linen accessories? - Yes, at Oldrids & Downtown we have a range of bedding to complete your home, from luxury pillows and pillowcases to mattress toppers, mattress protectors and every size of duvet.

Once you have your new duvet, you can then find a wide range of bedding accessories to complete your look, including sheets, duvet covers and mattress protectors to help you create the perfect feel in your bedroom.
