"Snowbusiness 2017 was a fantastic event! It's a completely new concept and I'm pleased to say that it was a spectacular success. It was great to welcome so many members of the Grantham Business Club and the wider business community, along with other stakeholders from within the town centre. Snowbusiness 2017 was an opportunity to network in a very informal way and to enjoy an evening of festive fun. And it was interesting to witness the skating prowess of Grantham's business leaders! My thanks to everyone who attended and all the Downtown team who worked extremely hard to organise the event and deliver a wonderful and memorable evening. May I take this opportunity to wish everyone in Grantham a very Merry Christmas." - Richard Broadhead, Managing Director.

Downtown Grantham Garden Centre Opens Ice Rink with Lincs FM and Peter Pan Panto Cast

Downtown Grantham Garden Centre Opens Ice Rink with Lincs FM and Peter Pan Panto Cast

After weeks of preparation, our Ice Rink returned for 2017 at Downtown Grantham Garden Centre, back by popular demand, opened by Lincs FM last weekend…

Firstly, congratulations to Sarah Snowdin, Lela Kendall and Bryan McDonald for winning the VIP day with Lincs FM!

The day began with Santa being pulled in on his sleigh by a number of excitable huskies before joining in the festive spirit with his very own Big Breakfast party. Whilst the children enjoyed their breakfasts, Santa surprised them with a gift for being on the Nice List!

As live entertainment from Dizzy Dale engaged the local public, Lincs FM were preparing for the big opening. At 12pm, John Marshall officially opened the rink and the lucky VIP winners were first to show everyone their skating skills. Soon after, the Peter Pan cast from Grantham Guildhall’s Arts Centre made an appearance. Captain Hook has never looked so frightened!

image

Christmas cheer continued as children enjoyed competitions and games.  And with a bubble and snow machine, it was hard not to get into the Christmas spirit!

Celebrating Long Service at Oldrids & Downtown

Celebrating Long Service at Oldrids & Downtown

April saw the celebration of some of the company’s long serving members of staff. A group of colleagues celebrating significant anniversaries with the business gathered together to receive a big thank you from us for all of their hard work and loyalty over the years.

The most recent group of employees to celebrate their long service milestones included people commemorating 10, 20, 30 and even 40 years service, representing a total of 260 years employment!

Throughout all of the changes over this time, we have remained keen to be a business that people enjoy working for and one that provides employees with a rewarding work-life that gives them the opportunities to develop and this seems to be reflected in the number of people who choose to stay with the business.

Our Managing Director, Richard Broadhead said, "At Oldrids & Downtown, we have tremendously loyal, dedicated and experienced staff, whom many companies around the world would dream of having in their team. It's thoroughly deserved and entirely appropriate that we celebrate long service in a special way. On behalf of the business, I congratulate all those receiving their awards".

Richard joined the recipients at the ceremony, along with other members of the executive team and the company Chairman. Each staff member received a certificate to commemorate their time with the business, as well as gift vouchers and a well-earned extra week’s holiday.
